About HEARTbeats
HEARTbeats is a group of socially responsible 9th through 12th graders that work to bring early awareness to teens about issues surrounding child abuse and family violence. They host four volunteering events during the year that directly benefit the children and families receiving services at the Violence Intervention Program (VIP).

We are in a mental health crisis. In the first three quarters of 2021, there were more than 47,000 mental health related visits to emergency departments at children’s hospitals around the country—this number is nearly 40% higher than the same period in 2020. This number is extremely disturbing, so we are here to share how you can be a part of the solution. Plus 1. Plus 1 means looking out for just one person beyond yourself. This can be as simple as checking in on a classmate, grabbing lunch with someone new, or texting someone at home to let them know you are thinking about them. You can also find a Plus 1 to bring to our HEARTbeats concert at the Whisky A Go Go on February 11, 2023. Our goal as HEARTBeats board members is to challenge you to find a Plus 1. Help us help VIP by making their work one person less. All it takes is one person to make a difference.
